About RA180 Crewgard
The RA180 headset with superior noise attenuation is suitable for tracked combat vehicle crews, fast-jet ground crews, or any high-noise application where a close-fitting ballistic helmet is not required. It features a sprung neckband and overhead straps, with line powered talk-through, Active Noise Reduction (ANR) and Voice Operated Switch (VOS) as standard.
RA180 Crewgard technology
The mass and volume of the RA180 headset provides Passive Noise Reduction (PNR), which combines with Active Noise Reduction (ANR) delivered by dedicated independent modules in each earshell. ANR cancels unwanted signals by superimposing an identical signal in antiphase. An advanced electronic Voice Operated Switch (VOS) detects the user’s voice even in the presence of high noise, allowing hands-free communications.

Boom microphone
Noise-cancelling dynamic or electret flexible boom microphone options, with Voice Operated Switch (VOS). Throat microphone or respirator adapter can also be connected.
Talk-Through
Talk-through allows the user to hear local environment sounds at safe levels (<85dBA), to maintain situational awareness of hazards or permit face-to-face conversations without defeating the hearing protection.
Neckband and headstrap
Fully adjustable headstrap and behind-the-head neckband provides earcup clamping force to ensure a good ear seal and user comfort.

RA180 Product Details
The RA180/1025 MK II variant is configured for Bowman with improvements to the Active Noise Reduction (ANR), attenuation, ear cushions, flexi boom arm and noise-cancelling microphone. Variants for other intercom systems can be configured from the RA315 Integrated Helmet System (IHS) which shares the same ear shell design.
-
High Noise Attenuation
Passive and Active Noise Reduction (ANR) features protect the hearing of users exposed to high levels of continuous noise; the headset achieves high levels of noise attenuation.
-
Local Sound Awareness and Talk-Through
The user can enable talk-through to hear local environment sounds at safe levels (<85dBA), to maintain situational awareness of hazards or permit face-to-face conversations without defeating the hearing protection.
-
Voice Operated Switch (VOS)
Integral advanced electronic Voice Operated Switch (VOS) tracks the background noise and enables hands-free communications when the user speaks.
-
Fit and Comfort
Contoured earshells, improved comfort ear cushions and adjustable head strap and neckband ensure an optimised, comfortable fit.
-
Intercom Compatibility
The RA180 headset is configured almost exclusively for the General Dynamics intercom family which shares a common audio interface, i.e. Clansman, Iris, Bowman, and MESHnet.

Additional information
Additional information
The headset downlead is factory configured and terminated into the required connector with pinout and audio levels to match the attached equipment, enabling the headset to support stereo communications. The boom microphone has a permanent connection but is complemented with an electronic noise-tracking Voice Operated Switch (VOS) that opens the press-to-talk (PTT) channel when the user’s voice is detected, even in very high-noise environments. Electronic talk-through features an on/off control switch mounted on the earcup. The headset Active Noise Reduction (ANR) and talk-through is powered from the attached equipment (18V to 28V DC supply required).
We develop customisable solutions tailored specifically to exact end user applications for use in tracked, wheeled vehicles, dismounted and tactical applications.
